Santa's Workshop 1932 vs 2020. Salt Slush vs. Disney!

2020 and Corona Christmas is coming up. We're all busy as bees preparing for a Workshop Christmas. Stress, stress, stress. Parts needs to be bought. Commodities that cannot be purchased during The Long Weekend needs to be on the shelve before everything closes down. We don't want to loose productive time because we've forgotten to buy oil, welding wire, filler...etc.

In addition, Turbos and Superchargers must be shipped before the holiday, because there are others in our situation that have to cope with a creative Christmas isolation in a workshop.

Meanwhile, The Salt Slush Santa Administration are overloaded...

...with request from young guns with dreams of power, speed and boost. Oh, I forgot they're asking about V8's too. Every time this guy hear something about 1000hp he looks like Ratfink. We don't blame him. 

 

Other than that, in another part of the workshop, Magnus is making home made Mopar Magic by using Ford leftover.  

Pre Christmas workout performed to prepare for the summer season. 

The Desert Oldsmobile Rocket brings elbow grease exercise and erased finger prints before Serge Blue and the Creme White are applied. 

We've ditch those slow Reindeers. Instead we will rely on an old Ariel, the Lion of Gods.

In eBay's Temptation land. Where dreams can come true and Chrome is Shiny.

Ulf's words was pounding my brain.

-You cannot expect to find the stuff you need when you want them, if you're working on a 1949 Oldsmobile Rocket 88.

- You've got to buy whatever pops up on eBay that fits your Olds when its available. Not when you need it. Those two will never match.

 

I was not looking for a front bumper. It was not needed at this point in time. Then suddenly; It was there. Straight. Shiny. No dents. A journey in temptation land had began. An intensive need was building up. 

You know you're lost. That there's only one way out and that route goes through Paypal. You're try to fight back, be ignorant, pretend that you comfortably can wait for next time, for the next bumper arrive on ebay. In a couple of years or so. 

 

For a while you might even be successful trying to forget what you've found. But at some point in time the crave takes over. Suddenly fingers are moving quickly over the keyboard. You're fully focused. Determined. Accept, Accept, Accept. 

Then suddenly. Your order is in! A warm feeling of Victory arrives. Seconds later the anxious waiting begins. 

I went through all of the above a couple of weeks ago. The outcome? See below.

The old bumper has been used for close up park assist for many years. 71 years to be precise. The former owners always known exactly where there local curb stones and road sign has been positioned. Or at least where these were positioned. Now, it's in need of Tender, Love and Care.

After restless waiting, after nights full nightmares that include lost gods announcement the eBay Treasure arrives. This time it was shiny as silver and in perfect condition. Like kids at Christmas Eve, Carina and I started to work on this Meccano for grow ups at once.

Bumper off. At this point in this time, Magnus offered a solid front and leaf springs end free of charge. Just to point out that there is always a Gasser option. 

Again, not needed at this point in time. But straight, no dents and soo nice. 

Yes I know, the grill bar got less shiny now.

Light, Compact and Powerful! We just want you to know. We're in love...with our new...

We know. Nothing is more painful than internet commercials.

But still. We're really exited about our new super light, thin wall, high temperature steel V-band turbine housing developed for BorgWarner AirWerks S200SX-E turbos. 

So what's this buzz all about? 

Here's what, the AirWerks S200SX-E turbo series offers a high efficient, reliable boosting device for a low price. But there's a drawback. The turbine housing might be efficient and cheap as chips, but it's heavy as lead and somewhat bulky to package and install.

And yes, we're informed. There are more aftermarket S200SX-E turbine housings out there. Expensive as gold. But feedback from AirWerks fans tells us about a cost limit. If you pimp your AirWerks turbo too much and you have to spend all your hard earned money on a super high tech AirWerk turbo, you're approaching the price of a BorgWarner EFR turbo equipped with all the Bells and Whistles like TiAl turbine wheel and ceramic ball bearing.

So, we adjusted the piece price to lowest possible level in order to be able to provide an alternative positioned between BorgWarner AirWerks and BorgWarner EFR.

Shine on you crazy diamond. The Salt Slush Single Scroll S200SXE turbine housing from one side...

 ...and the other.

The quality is amazing.

The total weight of the S200SX-E (S257) turbo with the Salt Slush Single Scroll is 6,5kg. 

These 6,5 kilos will provide around 550 hp while being reasonably cheap and packageable in almost all type of vehicles.

As a comparison, the standard AirWerks S200SX-E turbine housing is as heavy as the complete S200SX-E turbo when equipped with Salt Slush Special V-band single scroll turbine housing.

 

Now you know what you need.

 

 

Last Christmas before...fun comes back

Endure and be prepared. Soon it will all break loose. The balloon will burst. There will be all night parties, where you can dance, hug girls like there's a tomorrow. Race tracks will smell rubber again. Aircraft will take off to foreign destinations.  This mean that the soft solitude is over and fun, stress and hangover are back. 

But we're not there yet...

When time comes, there will be sane and serious professors and doctors with a mission. 

A small injection will get your life back to normal again

The moral of this short post is:

1. Stay in garage/workshop this Christmas. Drink a beer/bourbon or two but isolate yourself.

2. While in preferred workshop make your street/race car ready to race. Because when it all break loose again you don't want to be left behind and be the slow and sloppy guy that cannot smoke tires.

Be ahead of the game that soon will follow soon!

The Enchanted Sunday.

This Sunday it happened. When Ulf arrived. The rain was pouring down outside the workshop from heavy grey skies. Inside Carina was preparing for a hot Chicken wings lunch while baking bread. Yes, we have a workshop stove. We kept distance and drank check in coffee.

There was this Sunday feeling in the air. When your relaxed and expect nothing but being prepared for everything.

Ulf carried boxes. Boxes with tools. Shiny tools. Heavy tools. Strange shaped tools. Tools for men that knows how to use them and nobody else. He carried white pillow and blankets too. Still he had no plans to move in.

At this point in time we didn't know that we were soon to be amazed. Meanwhile, jokes were cracked, car dreams was shared but as the coffee got cold everybody got ready to work on their projects. In short, it was playtime. 

Ulf approached the Torpedo back Olds -49. He looked at the dents in roof & hood and said; 

- Someone has walked on it, probably a mid sized kid. Probably around 10 years old....

He rolled out the blanket and carefully adjusted the pillow to a comfortable position on the hood, climbed up through the hole where the front window once were. When in position he and his tool worked out dent after dent until they were gone, removed, vanished. 

I've never seen anything like this before. The whole Salt Slush team just stood there...flabbergasted!

After 6 hours (including a Chicken Wing lunch) all dent were gone. 

Ulf said it was ok. I was speachless.

Pro in action. We were just standing there looking. Like cows. 

Trying to figure out the secret.

 

We studied complementary cooperation too, as Petter (The Professor) and Kalle (The Project Man) were battling with an electric ghost.

Eventually, they busted the beast and we all saw the light. As Magnus once said; -It's good to know Kirchhoff law, but when it comes to car electrics...exorcism comes in handy.

According to Kalle, no proper Military vehicle should be without Dukes of Hazzard horns. Since it's peacemaker.

At some point, with all electric ghost gone, Magnus took the chance and cranked up the 5,2 Dodge V8. Successfully!

During a pandemic it's important to stay happy. Speed parts makes people happy. Kalle's early Christmas cheered up us all!

Epilogue: I've been working with cars and bike for basically, ever. But it was a really long time since I saw something like Ulf's sheet metal show this Sunday. In addition it became clear that hot chicken wings and opposite car guys souls can with joint forces chase evil electric ghost...OUT! 

When Big means Big. When two (S500SX-E) turbos meet one Magic Merlin Motor.

There are those who drive company cars.

There are those who wash cars. Manually.

There are those that can afford to buy cool cars.

But there are others too;

Some of those are dreaming about a Magnuson kit for their already fast ride.

Others just want 1000hp in their Supra, BMW or LS  engine. Which is ok. We can do that.

Then there are those who literally think out of the box. Who're looking for the impossible. Who're looking for what's never been done before.

November is here. Take shelter and prepare for Christmas in Garage/Workshop!

It has happened before, and it will happen again.  I'm talking about when we've occasionally been wrong. When we had to reconsider our statements. It won't happen this time.

Here's some undisputable facts; It's getting colder, darker and rainier outside day by day and at least Swedish Govt. won't be able cope with Covid 19 for a long time still.

In addition, Santa is in quarantine too.

All of the above is of course negative, but if we choose to focus on the positive side, you can foresee more of socially accepted Garage/Workshop time and less of painful big family dinners. But you have to be prepared. You've got to start now to order the stuff that you need to have an atmoshperic workshop Christmas. And you've have to do it right now. That's what we're doing.

It can lead to Christmas stress in November for car guys and car gals. But when Christmas is here and all part that you need is there for you, a warm feeling of relief will come. You and the angle grinder all alone. Cozy.

During a pandemic it's important to be broadminded and promote competition.
